First, ensure the ruler is visible. If you don’t see the ruler along the top and left sides of the document, go to the View ribbon, and in the Show group, click the Ruler checkbox.

Now, you can click and then drag on the ruler where you want to set your tab stop. This method only provides you with left tab stops unless you change the option in the tab selector.
You can remove a tab stop by dragging it (up or down) off of the ruler. When you release the mouse button, the tab stop disappears. You can also drag existing tab stops left or right along the ruler to a different position.
When multiple paragraphs are selected, only the tabs from the first paragraph show on the ruler.
